One of the most important features of the Eye4Software GPS Mapping Studio software is the ability to record your GPS positions to a track, along with the current speed, heading and altitude. Depending on the GPS device used, the position will be stored every second. When the track has been completed, it can be converted to a shape, or exported to different GPS track file formats, such as GPX, ASCII, Garmin, OziExplorer or Maptech.
In order to start a new track, you have to make sure that a vector or raster map has been loaded of the area (or a part of the area). The easiest method to create a new track, is by right clicking the "Tracks" folder in the "Project Explorer" and select "New Track...". If the "Project Explorer" is not visible, you can show it by selecting the "Project Explorer" option from the "View" menu.
After creating a new track, the "Track Properties" dialog will be displayed. It allows you to edit the track name, and how the track is displayed on the map. You can for instance select a different color for every track, or display only the fixes, or depth/altitude value instead of drawing the complete track.
You can always modify the track's settings by right cliking on it in the "Project Explorer" and selecting "Edit Track...".
When a track is loaded and selected, the active track name (the name of the track the GPS position will appended to) is displayed in the right corner of the statusbar. You will also notify that the "Record" button in the toolbar is enabled. You can click this button to start and stop adding positions to the selected track.
By default, when creating a new track, it is set as the active (or selected) track. To select a different track to append positions to, select the desired track in the "Project Explorer", right click on it, and select "Set Active".
A track can be saved by just clicking the "Save" button in the toolbar. It will be saved inside the project file. It is also possible to export it to another fileformat for use in other applications. Tracks can be saved in the following file formats:
You can export the track data by selecting the "Export" => "Export GPS Data" from the "File" menu.
