GPS Mapping Software - Modify tracks - Tutorial

Introduction

There are scenarios in which you have to modify an existing or recorded (GPS) track. For instance, when a track is created using with a GPS with an incorrect map datum (other then WGS84) set, to remove errors from the track, or to delete duplicate points (for instance when you had to wait at a specific location. In the Eye4Software GPS Mapping Studio software, there are different ways to modify a track.

Using the track editor

Using the track editor, you can manually insert, remove or add track points. Make sure you are not currently recording to this track, as this may result in unexpected results. You can show this editor by right clicking the track in the "Project Manager" and selecting "Edit...". A dialog will appear containing all the points (or vertices) in the track.

Delete points

To delete one or more point(s) from the track, select them in the list, and right click to select "Delete Selected Trackpoints". You can also click the associated button.

Modify points

You can modify a points position, altitude or depth. However, you can only edit one trackpoint at the time. To do this, just double-click the selected point.

Insert points

You can create a more precise track by inserting additional points into the track. To do this, select the point where the new point should be inserted. The inserted point is a copy of the selected point. You can edit this point by double-clicking it, or drag and drop it on the map to set its new position.

Track Filter

Using the built-in track filter, you can automatically delete all redundant points from a track. Only track points used to indicate a turn will be preserved. This way, you can save 90% on the number of track points without losing your route.

To use the track filter, open the "Track List" using the "Tracks..." option from the "View" menu. Select the track you want to filter, right click to open the menu, and select "Filter". A filtered copy of the track will be created, leaving your original track untouched.
