Yes this is possible. You can create a filtered copy of a selected track at any moment. It will remove all duplicate and redundant points (point lying on the same line).
To do so, open the track list by selecting the "View Track" option from the "View" menu. Right click the track you want to filter and select "Filter Track". The newly created track will appear in the track list.
